About District

Sirmaur  is located in   outer  Himalayas  which is commonly known as Shivalik range.This  district   is bounded  by district Shimla in North Uttrakhand in East, Haryana  in  South  and  Distt. Solan   in North-West.  Like  other parts of Himachal Pradesh , it   has beautiful landscapes,  bracing  climate, big   and   small  game  and  legendry temples which hold abiding attraction for the tourists.

The  river  Giri  is the  biggest  river  in  the district which  originates from  Kotkhai/Jubbal   Tehsil of  Shimla   district and  flows down  in the  south-east  direction.

Chandra tal wildlife sanctuary

  View of Chandra Tal lake Chander Tal is one of the high altitude  wetland located in the cold desert of Lahul & Spiti district of Himachal  Pradesh at an  altitude qof 4337 m above mean sea level. The wetland is situated in Chander Tal wild  life Sanctuary. The total arwa of sanctuary  is 38.56 sq.km.. (3856 ha) and Protected Area  is 61.50 sq.km.(6150 ha) with Eco Sensitive Zone. The Geographical location  of wetland is Latitude 31°28’30” N and  Langitude 77°37’ E.Chandertal catchment is  an area of Meadows, rugged rocks, snow and  scree. The area falls in the rain-shadow  areas of Himalayas.The monsoon hardly  penetrates and reaches the vallay in the  form of misty drizzles. Kanawar wildlife santuary

  Kanwar Wildlife Sanctuary  is spread over an area of 6,070 hectares. The altitude of this wildlife sanctuary varies a lot and it ranges from 1800-4833 m. The average rainfall in this sanctuary is about 1000 mm and the average snowfall here is about 321 mm. The nearest town to this sanctuary is Manikaran. The best approach to this sanctuary is from Kullu to Manikaran. The sanctuary gets maximum temperature of 25°C and the minimum temperature of this sanctuary is about -10°C. Kanwar Wildlife Sanctuary  was first declared as a sanctuary area in the year 1954 in the month of February. The sanctuary is located at high altitude and has narrow valleys and steep cliffs. This sanctuary houses one of the most endangered species of animals, Himalayan Tahr.
