Tirthan wildlife santuary
This wildlife is known to be one of the high altitude wildlife sanctuaries of Himachal Pradesh. This wide stretch of forest in Tirthan Valley was declared as a sanctuary area in the year 1976 on 17th June. The northern area of this sanctuary has been included within the Great Himalayan National Park near Kullu.
Tirthan Sanctuary is spread over an area of 6112 hectares and the nearest town of this wildlife sanctuary is Banjar. The best approach to this sanctuary is from Kullu to Banjar. The altitude of this sanctuary ranges from 2100-4875 m. The temperature range of this sanctuary is between 30°C and -5°C.The average annual rainfall of Tirthan Sanctuary is about 1500 mm.
